US and Canadian rig counts drop

On Friday, Baker Hughes reported that for the week ending August 31, the US rig count declined by four to 1,894, reflecting a year-on-year decrease of 74 rigs. The rig count also fell by 16 a week ago and 17 the week prior. Rigs drilling for oil increased by 11 to 1,419, while the gas rig count dropped to 473, down 13 week-over-week.

Canada's rig count fell by 18 over the past week to 316 and is down 201 from the same week a year ago.
