US and Canadian rig counts drop

According to Friday's report from Baker Hughes, for the week ending June 22, the US rig count fell by five to 1,966 but was still up 84 year-on-year. The gas-directed rig count slid by 21 to 541, its eighth drop in nine weeks and down 42 percent since peaking at 936 in October 2011. Oil drilling rigs rose by 16 to a 25-year high of 1,421.

The Canadian rig count fell by 10 to 238, reflecting a decrease of 12 compared to the same week a year ago.
