Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending January 3, the US rotary rig count decreased by nine to 796 rigs following an eight-rig decrease the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by two to 123, while the number of rigs drilling for oil decreased by seven to 670. The overall rig count is now down by 279 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 14 to 85 rigs in the week ending January 3, following a 50-rig plunge the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by nine rigs compared to the same week a year ago.
