Ukrainian steelmakers issue 2007 production data

The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for 2007.

Accordingly, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) increased its finished steel products output by 1.6 percent, its agglomerate production by 14.4 percent, its pipe production by 14.5 percent, but decreased its crude steel production by 0.4 percent and its pig iron production by 0.1 percent year on year in 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 5.467 million, 12.881 million, 127,200, 6.954 million and 5.429 million.

During the period in question, Azovstal registered a 6.8 percent increase in its finished steel products output, a 5.4 percent rise in crude steel production, a 7.5 percent increase in pig iron production, and a one percent rise in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons stood at 5.621 million, 6.329 million, 5.443 million and 1.933 million.

In 2007, Makeevsk produced 1.004 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 20 percent, 1.761 million metric tons of crude steel - up 12.5 percent, and 1.844 million metric tons of pig iron - up 43 percent, all compared to 2006.

In 2007, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) increased its finished steel production by 9.3 percent to 3.563 million metric tons, it upped its crude steel production by 12 percent to 3.948 million metric tons, its pig iron production by 12 percent to 3.318 million metric tons, but decreased its agglomerate production by three percent to 5.066 million metric tons, all compared to 2006.

During the given period, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih registered a 3.9 percent increase in its finished steel production, a 7.1 percent increase in its crude steel production, a six percent rise in its pig iron production and a 4.9 percent increase in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 7.119 million, 8.103 million, 7.208 million and 11.954 million.

In 2007, ISTIL produced 973,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 13.8 percent, and 1.026 million metric tons of crude steel - up 11.5 percent, both compared to 2006.

Finally, in the January-December 2007 period Zaporizhstal raised its finished steel products output by 3.2 percent, crude steel production by 1.3 percent, pig iron production by 0.8 percent but decreased its agglomerate production by 0.5 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 3.727 million, 4.459 million, 3.564 million and 5.626 million.
