Ukraine sees five percent drop in flat steel imports in October

In October this year, Ukraine's flat steel product imports were down by five percent compared to September, but increased by 50 percent compared to October 2009, to 72,170 mt, at a cost of $79.16 million.

In particular, Ukraine's imports of hot rolled (HR) steel in October went up by 54 percent to 10,910 mt, its imports of cold rolled (CR) steel went down by 40 percent to 7,540 mt, while its imports of other flat rolled steel products dropped by almost five percent to 53,720 mt, all compared to September.

The main flat steel product supplier to Ukraine in October was Russia, which delivered 10,690 mt of HR steel, 7,070 mt of CR steel, and 15,880 mt of other flats, i.e., 46.6 percent of Ukraine's total imports of flats in October.

In January-October this year, Ukraine's flat steel imports increased by 70 percent year on year to 696,790 mt, at a cost of about $699 million.
