Ukraine issues Jan-Sept import-export data

According to the statistical data for the first nine months of 2007, Ukraine increased its pig iron exports by 93.4 percent, its ferroalloy exports by 2.7 percent, its profiles exports by 37.9 percent and its coated steel exports by 4.2 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were to 1.62 million, 846,000, 1.13 million and 98,000.

On the other hand, during the given period Ukrainian exports of billets decreased by six percent to 5.6 million metric tons, its slab exports dropped 13.3 percent to 2.91 million metric tons, its exports of HR steel decreased by 2.2 percent to 5.7 million metric tons and its exports of CR steel dropped by four percent to 843,000 metric tons, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

Meanwhile, Ukraine registered a 2.7 percent year on year increase in its scrap exports to 598,600 metric tons during the January-September 2007 period. The largest consumer of Ukrainian origin scrap during the period in question was Turkey, which imported 394,400 metric tons of this raw material.

As for steel imports, in the first nine months of 2007, Ukraine imported 744,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 78 percent compared to corresponding period of 2006. Imports of flat rolled steel increased by 2.5-fold to 478,000 metric tons, while imports of longs increased by 18 percent to 266,000 metric tons.
