According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK),
Turkey's monthly industrial turnover index in December 2011 increased by 16.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and was up by 20.2 percent from November 2011.
In December, the industrial turnover index for the manufacture of basic metals in
Turkey improved by 23.6 percent year on year and registered an increase of 18 percent from the previous month, after a 15.3 percent month-on-month decrease recorded in November. Meanwhile, on year-on year basis the last decline in the index was recorded in January 2010.
On the other hand, fabricated metal products manufacturing, except machinery and equipment, was the industrial sub-sector which recorded the second-highest year-on-year increase, with 30.2 percent.
Meanwhile, in December 2011 the monthly industrial new orders index for the manufacture of basic metals increased by 18.8 percent from November and was up 20 percent year on year. On year-on-year basis, the index has been trending up since January 2010, while in December the index switched to an increasing trend on month-on-month basis after two successive months of month-on-month decrease.
