Turkish metal manufacturing turnover falls in August

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK), Turkey's monthly industrial turnover index in August this year increased by 0.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and was down by 5.5 percent from July this year.

In August, the industrial turnover index for the manufacture of basic metals in Turkey decreased by 3.6 percent year on year, recording the first decline on year-on year basis since January 2010. Meanwhile, the industrial turnover index registered an 11.1 percent decrease from the previous month. The industrial turnover index for fabricated metal products manufacturing, except machinery and equipment, recorded a fall of 13 percent year on year in the month in question and decreased by 18.6 percent from the previous month.

Meanwhile, in August this year, the industrial new orders index for the manufacture of basic metals decreased by 8.9 percent from July and was down 4.1 percent year on year. The industrial new orders index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, in August this year increased by 0.9 percent compared to the same month of 2011 and was down 6.2 percent compared to the previous month.
