Turkish consumers less optimistic in October

According to the monthly consumer tendency survey released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the consumer confidence index*, which stood at 80.46 points in September, decreased by 2.59 percent month on month in October, declining to 78.38 points.

According to the indices based on individual questions concerning the consumer tendency, in October this year the index for the general current economic situation decreased by 4.26 percent month on month to 69.52 points, while the index for the general economic situation in the next three months also declined by 3.61 percent to 73.48 points.

Meanwhile, in October, the index for the probability of buying durable goods in the next six months increased by 12.55 percent to 13.35 points, the index for the probability of buying a car in the next six months rose by 22.61 percent to 8.07 points and the index for the probability of buying or building a home in the next 12 months declined by 3.22 percent to 6.65 points.

* When the index is above 100 it indicates an optimistic outlook, when it is equal to 100 it indicates a neutral outlook, and below 100 it points to a pessimistic outlook.
