Turkey’s unemployment rate edges down in May

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the unemployment rate in Turkey fell 1.2 percentage points year on year to 8.2 percent in May this year, recording the lowest unemployment rate in Turkey since before the economic crisis in 2001. In the third quarter of 2001, the employment rate was 7.8 percent in Turkey. Employment rose by 837,000 in May this year to 25,282,000, up 3.4 percent year on year.
