Turkey’s Toscelik inaugurates Algerian rebar facility

Turkish steelmaker Toscelik has inaugurated its new rebar facility in Oran, Algeria. The plant completed with an investment of $750 million has become the largest private sector investment in Algeria. The steel products to be produced at the plant will include billets, rebars and merchant bars. The whole production will be supplied to the Algerian market, as replacement for imports.
 
Toscelik's new facility is Algeria's largest steel plant with an annual liquid steel capacity of 1,250,000 mt. 900,000 mt of annual rebar production and an annual turnover of $1 billion are expected at the plant.
 
All the equipment, including a 120 mt electric arc furnace, a 120 mt ladle furnace, a six-strand high-speed billet caster and a 150 mt/hour capacity rolling mill plant, has been produced in Turkey.
 
Meanwhile, Toscelik is also carrying out a wire rod plant project in Algeria. The company has broken ground on the project which is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2014.
