As of today, February 2, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have mostly increased by TRY 100/mt with only minor changes in US dollar basis, in order offset the ongoing currency fluctuations, while falling by TRY 100/mt ($3/mt) in the Iskenderun region amid aggressive pricing policies in the region. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,300-29,200/mt ($542-559/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.50.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $550-570/mt ex-works, unchanged over the same period, while acceptable prices are still available at $545-560/mt ex-works, also stable over the same period.
One Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar price today at TRY 28,200/mt ($540/mt), indicating a decrease of TRY 300/mt ($7/mt) compared to January 29. Another Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar price at TRY 29,300/mt ($561/mt) ex-works today, up by TRY 300/mt ($4/mt) over the same period. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 28,200-28,500/mt ($540-546/mt) ex-warehouse, down TRY 100/mt ($3/mt) over the same period.
The general sentiment on the demand side is negative due to adverse weather conditions and also the approach of Ramadan which begins on February 19.
