Local Bulgarian buyers are attempting to adapt their trading activity from the lev to the euro at the beginning of 2026. The adoption of the new currency in business transactions has led to a slight upward adjustment in local rebar and wire rod prices, while in the merchant bar and beams segment prices have inched down due to sluggish demand.
The general sentiment regarding buying activity is negative due to political uncertainty and the awaited preliminary round of elections. As a result, most projects are on hold for government approval, which causes delays. Local traders are cautious regarding their purchases. Some of them are not ready to absorb the local price increases. Some, however, have restocked in January, fearing prices would rise further due to CBAM uncertainties.
Currently, in the import segment, Turkish rebar has been offered to Bulgaria officially at $570-590/mt CFR for February shipment, indicating a decrease of $10-20/mt over the month. In addition, ex-Turkey wire rod offers to Bulgaria is standing at $580-600/mt CFR this month. Last week, around 3,000 mt were sold to Bulgaria at $580/mt FOB. Fresh equal angle export offers are standing at $600-620/mt CFR Bulgaria from Turkey, down by $25/mt over the same period. The freight rate from Turkey to Bulgaria is estimated at around $20/mt, versus $25/mt earlier.
**Due to the recent change from the Bulgarian leva to the euro, SteelOrbis will start reporting Bulgarian longs prices only in euros from next month.
