Turkey's steel import value down 14.9 percent in 2016

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in December last year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports decreased by 10.9 percent year on year, totaling $1.0 billion. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in sixth place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value. In 2016, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $12.57 billion, decreasing by 14.9 percent compared to the previous year.
 
In December, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 12th among the products with the highest import value, amounted to $257.7 million in value, decreasing by 6.1 percent year on year. In 2016, the value of Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel was up 8.7 percent to $2.98 billion compared to 2015.
