Turkey’s steel billet exports up 46 percent in August over July

According to the data provided by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in August this year Turkey's total steel billet exports amounted to 271,445 metric tons, increasing by 9.42 percent year on year and up 46 percent compared to the previous month. In July Turkey's steel bilet exports recorded a 39.3 percent decrease from the previous month. Meanwhile, in August the revenue generated by steel billet exports totaled $189.5 million, increasing 52.7 percent compared to August 2010 and up 47.4 percent month on month.

In August, the average export price of Turkish steel billet amounted to $698.13/mt, increasing by $6/mt or 0.9 percent from July.

Meanwhile, in the first eight months of 2011, Turkey's steel billet exports declined by 26.4 percent, dropping to 1.65 million metric tons, while the revenue for these exports stood at $1.1 billion, down by 5.9 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010.

In the month in question, Turkey's steel billet exports to Saudi Arabia increased 540 percent, while its steel billet exports to Egypt decreased 26.7 percent, both compared to July this year. Syria's steel imports from Turkey decreased by 54 percent in August from July levels.
