Turkey’s steel billet exports down 32 percent in 2011

According to the data provided by Turkey's Steel Exporters' Association (CIB), in December last year Turkey's total steel billet exports amounted to 254,340 metric tons, decreasing by 21.34 percent year on year and up 58.5 percent compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, in December the revenue generated by Turkey's steel billet exports totaled $162.15 million, decreasing 11.76 percent compared to December 2010 and up 43.3 percent month on month.

Meanwhile, in 2011 Turkey's steel billet exports declined by 32.16 percent to 2.4 million metric tons, while the revenue for these exports stood at $1.6 billion, down by 15.5 percent, both compared to 2010.

In 2011, Turkey's steel billet exports to Saudi Arabia decreased by 1.6 percent, while its steel billet exports to Egypt increased by 50 percent, both compared to 2010. Syria's steel imports from Turkey increased by 207 percent in 2011 on year-on-year basis.
