According to the data provided by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in July Turkey's total steel bar exports, including rebar, amounted to 694,300 metric tons, decreasing by 23.8 percent year on year and by 5.5 percent month on month. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totalled $309.66 million, decreasing by 70.15 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
On the other hand, in the first seven months of this year, Turkey's steel bar exports slid 4.38 percent year on year to 6.146 million mt, totalling a value of $2.754 billion, half of the value registered in the corresponding period of the previous year.
In July, the amount of steel bar exported from Turkey to the Middle East countries reached 470,763 metric tons, down 37.44 percent year on year, totalling a value of $207 million, down 75.98 percent compared to July 2008. In particular, steel bar exports to Iraq rose by more than four times compared to July 2008, from 12,712 metric tons to 66,424 metric tons. The statistics also show that Turkish mills found a market in Syria, exporting 18,900 metric tons of steel bar, compared to 95 metric tons in July 2008.
On the other hand, in July this year Turkey's steel bar exports to North Africa totalled 140,543 metric tons, up 395 percent year on year, totalling a value of 64 million, up 126 percent compared to the value in the same period of the previous year. In particular, in July Turkey's exports to Egypt increased to 112,447 metric tons from 20 metric tons in July last year.
Also in July this year, Turkish steel bar exports to Europe amounted to 11,340 metric tons, decreasing by 84.44 percent; Turkish steel bar exports to the Americas totalled 16,631 metric tons, decreasing by 34.23 percent, while steel bar exports to African countries amounted to 50,404 metric tons, increasing by 401 percent - all compared to July 2008.
