Turkey's stainless flat steel imports up 22.52 percent in Q1

In March this year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 6.15 percent year on year and increased by 2.07 percent compared to the previous month to 35,985 metric tons, following the 13.62 percent month-on-month decrease recorded in February, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports in March was $79.83 million, decreasing by 3.71 percent year on year and up 3.98 percent compared to February.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter of the current year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 112,025 metric tons, increasing by 22.52 percent, with a value of $243.52 million, up 6.72 percent, both year on year.

In the first quarter this year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan, which ranked as Turkey's top import source for the products in question in 2013, decreased by 43.05 percent year on year to 12,915 mt. In January-March this year, South Korea was Turkey's leading import source for stainless flat steel, supplying 32,608 metric tons, up 314.12 percent year on year. Italy followed South Korea, with its stainless flat steel exports to Turkey in the given period increasing by 199.92 percent year on year to 19,534 metric tons. Meanwhile, in the given period Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from China increased by 67.72 percent year on year to 13,146 metric tons.
