According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in November 2011 Turkey's steel scrap imports rose by 7.5 percent over October and were up 13.5 percent compared to the same month of 2010, amounting to 1.92 million metric tons.
The data show that, in November last year, the average import price of Turkey's steel scrap stood at $457/mt, decreasing by $11/mt compared to the previous month but up $73/mt compared to November 2010.
In November 2011, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 449,900 mt, down four percent, while Russia followed the US with its scrap exports to Turkey amounting to 267,909 mt, down 0.8 percent, both compared to October. In the given month, Estonia exported 135,034 mt of steel scrap to Turkey, increasing from the 7,697 mt recorded in the previous month.
Meanwhile, in the first 11 months of the year Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 19.34 million mt, increasing by 13.9 percent compared to the same period of 2010. In the January-November 2011, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 5.2 million mt, while Russia and Romania followed the US with 2.15 million mt and 1.96 million mt respectively.
