Turkey’s pig iron imports recover in February

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in February this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 131,977 mt, up sharply compared to the 59,921 metric tons recorded in the previous month and the 67,847 mt recorded in the same month of 2012, after the lowest volume since May 2011 had been recorded in January of the current year.

In February this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $416/mt according to TUIK data, falling from the average of $480/mt recorded in the same month of the previous year. The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in February was $55 million, up 68.5 percent compared to February 2012.

In the first two months of the year, Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 191,896 mt, decreasing 21 percent compared to the same period of 2012. Turkey imported 105,027 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine in January-February this year, down 38.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while imports from Russia, Turkey's second largest pig iron source, amounted to 75,690 mt in the first two months, up 25.7 percent year on year.
