According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in March this year Turkey's flat steel imports, including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, rose by 11 percent compared to the previous month and were down 35 percent compared to March 2011, decreasing to 353,269 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $266.5 million, increasing by 10.3 percent as compared to February this year and down 39.6 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first quarter of the current year, Turkey's flat steel imports amounted to 1.1 million metric tons, decreasing 18 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first quarter of the current year, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Ukraine amounted to 178,849 metric tons, decreasing by 21.45 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports in January-March this year was Romania with 166,957 metric tons, up 24.5 percent compared to the first three months of 2011.
