According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in September this year Turkey's flat steel imports, including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, fell by four percent compared to the previous month and were down 14.7 percent compared to September 2011, totaling 433,995 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $311.5 million, decreasing by 3.1 percent as compared to August this year and down 26.6 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first nine months of the current year Turkey's flat steel imports amounted to 3.7 million metric tons, decreasing 5.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first nine months, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Ukraine amounted to 800,269 metric tons, increasing by 8.8 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports in January-September this year was Russia with 677,289 metric tons, down 33.3 percent compared to the same period of 2011.
