In March this year, Turkey's coking coal imports totaled 356,206 mt, down 8.07 percent year on year and decreasing by 5.55 percent on month-on-month basis, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the value of these imports was $53.32 million, down 13.51 percent year on year and decreasing by 5.14 percent month on month.
In the first quarter of this year, Turkey's coking coal imports increased by 19.07 percent to 1.29 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $193.92 million, up 10.81 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In March this year, the US was the sole source of coking coal imports for Turkey, supplying 356,206 metric tons, down 8.74 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the first quarter, Turkey's coking coal imports from the US increased by 38.26 percent year on year to 1.03 million mt. The US was followed by Canada with 164,997 mt of coking coal exports to Turkey in the given period.
