Borcelik, one of Turkey's leading galvanized sheet producers, has announced the commissioning of its third cold rolling line and third galvanizing line.

In line with the $138 million investment project for the production lines in question which was initiated in July 2006, Borcelik, which is owned by ArcelorMittal and Borusan Holding, has increased its overall cold rolling capacity by 60 percent to 1.6 million mt and has upped its galvanizing capacity to 900,000 mt.

With the commissioning of the third galvanizing line, Borcelik now has the largest and most modern galvanized sheet production capacity in Turkey. In line with market expectations, the mill will be able to produce galvanized sheets in thicknesses of 0.25-2.00 mm, widths of up to 1,530 mm and with zinc coatings of 50-350 gr/m2. The investment aims at satisfying demand from the automotive, white goods, and in particular from the construction sector.

According to Borcelik General Manager Erkan Kafadar, the new galvanizing line enables separation of orders according to customer segments, and, as regards production planning, it provides more flexible and effective optimizations for coating type, coating amount, as well as for surface quality. Therefore, with the implementation of the new investment, Borcelik is now able to ship defect-free products to its customers with increased punctuality.
