Turkey’s billet imports up 18.1 percent in January-May

In May this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by almost one percent year on year to 459,109 mt, up 48.44 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $150.36 million, down 15.3 percent year on year and rising by 64.7 percent compared to the previous month.

In the January-May period this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 18.1 percent year on year to 2.18 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $645 million, down 16.8 percent year on year.
 
In the first five months of this year, Turkey imported 747,479 mt of billet and bloom from Russia, down 0.51 percent year on year, with Russia ranking as Turkey's leading billet and bloom import source, ahead of China which supplied 666,703 mt in the given period.
