Turkey’s Ministry of Trade has issued its interim report regarding the safeguard investigation on imports of certain steel products.

According to the report, the imports of the products subject to the investigation, including certain flat, long, pipe and hollow sections, railway and tram line components and stainless flat steel products, decreased significantly to 8.3 million mt in 2014, while in the following years these imports increased and amounted to 10.6 million mt in 2017.

In addition, it is stated in the report that the globally increasing protective measures on steel products have increased the threat of damage to the Turkish steel industry, due to rising imports.

Meanwhile, the trade ministry stated that, in accordance with the information received from interested parties, it has determined that hot rolled stainless products are not being produced in Turkey and that therefore the investigation will only cover the imports of cold rolled stainless products.

Products subject to the investigation currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7208, 7209, 7210, 7211, 7212, 7225, 7226, 7213, 7214, 7215, 7216, 7217, 7227, 7228, 7303, 7304, 7305, 7306, 7219, 7220 and 7302.
