Turkey doubles its billet exports in May

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's steel billet and bloom exports amounted to 294,208 metric tons, double compared to the same month of 2011 and up 42.2 percent compared to April this year. Meanwhile, in May the revenue generated by Turkey's steel billet exports totaled $181.9 million, increasing 40.8 percent compared to April this year, while the figure doubled on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in the first five months of 2012 Turkey's steel billet exports increased by 1.4 percent to 950,058 metric tons, while the revenue for these exports stood at $584.6 million, up by 2.6 percent, both compared to the same period of 2011.

In the first five months of this year, Turkey increased its steel billet exports to Saudi Arabia by 76.75 percent, while the country's steel billet exports to Iran and to the UAE decreased by 40.7 percent and 78.3 percent respectively, all compared to the first five months of 2011.
