Turkey-based MMK Metalurji reportedly mulls restarting EAF

SteelOrbis has learned that Turkey-based MMK Metalurji may be considering restarting its electric arc furnace (EAF) and hot rolled strip facility.
Given the current market conditions, scrap and hot rolled coil (HRC) prices allow better margins in producing HRC from scrap. Accordingly, MMK Metalurji reportedly may resume crude steel and hot rolled coil production.
MMK Metalurji halted its EAF and hot rolling facilities back in 2012 due to high raw material costs and growing energy prices in Turkey at a time when HRC prices were moving down.
