Canton, Ohio-based manufacturer The Timken Company announced Monday the release of a new product for the wind energy sector, as well as announced the establishment of a new wind-energy research center.

Timken says the new UltraWind P1 Seal will be vital part of the wind-energy manufacturing sector. "Seals play an integral role in maximizing wind-turbine uptime and productivity because of their ability to prevent lubrication leakage and bearing contamination," said Hans Landin, director of Process Industries original equipment and wind energy at Timken.

Additionally, Timken will construct the Americas' only wind-energy research center focused on advanced development of bearing systems in wind turbines. The company plans to build the $11.8 million Wind Energy Research and Development Center in collaboration with Stark State Collage, the Stark County Port Authority and the Stark Development Board.

Joint funding for the project combines more than $6 million invested by Timken; $2.1 million from Ohio's Third Frontier Commission; and a $1.5 million loan from the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority's Advanced Energy Jobs Stimulus Program.
