ThyssenKrupp CSA to raise slab output 67 percent by 2012

ThyssenKrupp CSA, a joint venture slab mill between steelmaker ThyssenKrupp and Brazilian iron ore mining company Vale, plans to increase output at the $6.5 billion mill 67 percent by 2012, reaching peak production levels. The increase would boost steel output to 5 million metric tons per year.

The increase in slab production to 5 million metric tons annually was originally part of CSA's expansion plans; however, additional plans to expand production capacity further are no longer in the works for the time being.

Currently, the ThyssenKrupp CSA mill produces about 3 million metric tons of steel slabs per year, where production is expected to remain until the end of 2011.
