Thailand scrap imports for first five months in 2018

According to preliminary customs data, Thailand imported 690,765 mt of ferrous scrap in the first five months of 2018. During the January to May period, Thailand imported 201,180 mt (29 percent of the total) from the US, 99,700 mt (14 percent) from Myanmar, 55,320 mt (8 percent) from Australia, 33,320 mt (5 percent) from the Caribbean (primarily Trinidad and Tobago), 30,088 mt (4 percent) from South Africa, 27,723 mt (4 percent) from New Zealand, 23,586 mt (3 percent) from Japan and 219,848 mt (32 percent) from other source countries.

Scrap imports are higher than for the first six months in 2017 when SteelOrbis reported Thailand scrap imports of 651,000 mt.
