Thailand brings AD duties on HR imports from 14 countries
Thai government announced an investigation of anti-dumping on July 8, 2002 for hot rolled steel imported from 14 countries. After the completion of anti-dumping investigations
Thailand's Committee of Foreign Trade Department concluded to apply anti-dumping duties to hot rolled steel imports from
Japan, South
Africa,
Russia,
Kazakhstan,
India, South
Korea,
Taiwan,
Venezuela,
Argentina,
Ukraine, Algeria,
Indonesia,
Slovakia and
Romania.
The surcharge that has been applied for the past six months is due to expire on Sunday. Thai commitee has decided that same rate of 30% of CIF (cost, insurance,
freight) prices will be applied to the entire 56 items imported from the above 14 countries and these measures will replace the expiring surcharge. The measures will be in force for 6 months.
Local steel producers have lobbied hard for the past year for protection, saying their industry has been hurt by cut-rate imports. Importers must place bank guarantees for shipments of steel from the countries in question. The money would be refunded if a more detailed investigation over the next six months failed to produce evidence of dumping.
