On February 5, Indian steelmaker Tata Steel announced that its total steel sales in the first month of 2010 increased by nine percent year on year from 511,000 mt to 556,000 mt, due to a 10 percent increase year on year in its long product sales and an eight percent rise in its flat product sales.

Meanwhile, the company stated that in January it witnessed a 14 percent rise year on year in its crude steel output to 596,000 mt.

During the month in question, the company's hot metal production rose by 13 percent to 650,000 mt, while its saleable steel output amounted to 607,000 mt, increasing by 11 percent, both compared to January 2009. The saleable steel output was the best monthly result ever recorded by Tata Steel.

The month also witnessed the best-ever output results for most of the company's production units.
