Tata Steel’s sales up 18 percent in FY 2009-10

On April 6, Indian steelmaker Tata Steel announced that its total steel sales in the 2009-10 Indian fiscal year, which ended on March 31 this year, increased by 18 percent year on year from 5.23 million mt to 6.17 million mt, due to a 34 percent increase year on year in its long product sales (2.7 million mt) and an eight percent rise in its flat product sales (3.47 million mt).
 
Meanwhile, the company stated that in FY 2009-10 it witnessed a 16 percent rise year on year in its crude steel output to 6.56 million mt.
 
During the year in question, the company's hot metal production rose by 16 percent to 7.23 million mt, while its saleable steel output amounted to 6.44 million mt, increasing by 20 percent, both compared to FY 2008-09. The crude steel, hot metal and saleable steel outputs constituted the best yearly results ever recorded by Tata Steel.
 
The year also witnessed the best-ever output results for most of the company's production units.
