Tata Steel’s August sales up 25 percent

Indian steelmaker Tata Steel has said that in August it witnessed a 25 percent rise year on year in its sales to 492,000 mt. The strong performance came on the back of an 81 percent jump in sales of long products, used in construction, from a year earlier. In the corresponding month last year, the producer's sales stood at 392,000 mt.

During the month in question, the company's crude steel output rose by 16 percent to 552,000 mt. Its saleable steel production increased by 14 percent to 526,000 mt last month as against 460,000 mt in August 2008. Meanwhile, the company's hot metal production in August went up by 15 percent year on year to 597,000 mt.
