German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that it has received the final acceptance from the Indian steel giant Tata Steel regarding the modernization of coiler No. 3 at its hot strip plant in IJmuiden, Netherlands. The coiler No. 3 upgraded by SMS Siemag is able to coil hot strip of higher strengths and greater thicknesses.

Tata Steel stated that with the modernization the company has achieved coiling of the higher strengths increasingly demanded by the market, while keeping investment costs as low as possible. The modifications to coiler No. 3 were carried out in February 2012 during a five-day shutdown.

Tata Steel operates a hot rolled strip mill with an annual production capacity of five million mt, with thicknesses in a range of 1.47-25 mm at its IJmuiden site.
