Summary of China's steel imports & exports in August

In August, China's steel product exports totaled 5,379,092 mt, up 1,522,568 mt or 39.5 percent year on year, with a value of $3.9485 billion, up $1.4517 billion or 58.1 percent. During the same period, China's steel product imports came to 1,464,425 mt, down 162,077 mt or 10 percent year on year, with a value of $1.8254 billion, down $2,541,000 or 0.1 percent - as reported by the Chinese customs authorities.

From January to August 2007, China's steel product exports totaled 45,081,487 mt, up 20,557,362 mt or 83.8 percent year on year, with a value of $30.6283 billion, up $16.4577 billion or 116.1 percent. During the same period, China's steel product imports totaled 11,549,768 mt, down 1,016,118 mt or 8.1 percent year on year, with a total value of $13.9040 billion, up $0.9119 or seven percent.

Exports in August


As regards semi-finished products, billet exports in August totaled 120,543.3 mt, down 320,073.1 mt or 72.6 percent year on year, with a value of $59,872,800, down $110,312,300 or 64.8 percent. Meanwhile, slab exports in August totaled 172,100.6 mt, down 350,276.3 mt or 67.1 percent, with a value of $88,479,200, down $124,580,600 or 58.5 percent.

Exports from January to August

China's billet exports from January to August totaled 2,510,704 mt, up 319,495 mt or 14.6 percent year on year, with a value of $1.1285 billion, up $335,185,100 or 42.3 percent. Meanwhile, slab exports during the same period totaled 2,191,492 mt, up 248,986 mt or 12.7 percent, with a value of $958,829,700, up $237,119,100 or 32.9 percent.

Imports in August


Billet imports in August came to 3,098.54 mt, down 20,972.631 mt or 87.1 percent year on year, with a value of $1,087,700, down $6,168,600 or 85 percent. Meanwhile, no slabs were imported during the same period, down 8,172.54 mt in volume and $2,772,400 in value.

Imports from January to August


Import of billets from January to August totaled 64,814.94 mt, down 47,,688.26 mt or 42.4 percent year on year, with a value of $21,766,300, down $10,398,500 or 32.3 percent. Meanwhile, slab exports during the same period totaled 25,281.76 mt, down 19,193.23 mt or 43.2 percent, with a value of $8,979,800, down $4,414,500 or 33 percent.
