Steel market rallying with price rise in EU

Industry insiders report overall that the German and European steel industries are seeing a positive rise in demand. Sources reveal the price increase on April 1 of 30-40 euro per ton has been met with wide marketacceptance. Germany's ThyssenKrupp AG reported that most of its new carbon steel orders for Q2 through March 31, 2002 were completed with new prices. Experts predict a 3-4% growth rate for cold-rolled products on the global market, up to 10 million metric tons. Quarter one results are available May 23.
