The Spanish stainless steel producer Acerinox, S.A. has announced that it will invest €51 million in an upgrading program at its Campo de Gibraltar factory.

Accordingly, Acerinox's €51 million investment is aimed at technologically upgrading the Campo de Gibraltar factory and fitting it with the most advanced equipment. Likewise, the safety systems will be updated and the latest technologies for emissions control and waste treatment will be installed.

"With this investment Acerinox takes a step forward, which will place the Andalusian factory in a leading position in the stainless steel sector in terms of technology, which will allow it to keep its European leadership in a sector featured by overcapacity and high costs with regard to the competitors of other areas," reads Acerinox's statement, adding that the achievement of its plans for 2009-2010 have led the company to bet again on this factory and feel optimistic regarding the future, even when the production levels of previous years have not been reached.
