South Africa extends ban on scrap exports for further six months

The South African Ministry of Trade, Industry and Competition has announced that it has extended the ban on scrap exports for a further six months effective as of June 15, given the ongoing problem of metal theft which is damaging the country’s public infrastructure.

As in the first imposition of the ban on November 30 last year, exceptions will be made for stainless steel, as well as for ferrous waste and scrap that is produced in the ordinary course of business as a by-product of a manufacturing process.
