Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has announced that it will supply a new section mill for Chinese steel producer Maanshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (Masteel) for the production of heavy and super heavy beams, known also as jumbo beams. The section mill will be designed for an annual capacity of 800,000 mt and hot commissioning is scheduled for mid-2019.
According to SMS, the flexible section mill will enable the company to respond to the high demand for heavy steel beams and sheet piles in China.
