German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that it will upgrade the six-high reversing cold mill of Bangladesh-based KYCR Coil Industries Limited to a compact cold mill (CCM). The reversing cold mill supplied by SMS Siemag in 2002 has been producing high-quality cold strip in widths of between 600 mm and 1,050 mm and with a minimum final thickness of 0.09 mm. The plant was specially designed for thin-strip rolling.

KYCR decided to further improve the performance and increase the capacity of the reversing cold mill. With the upgrade project, the annual production capacity will increase to approximately 170,000 mt.

SMS Siemag stated that the necessary downtime for the plant expansion will be kept as short as possible. The first strip is scheduled to be rolled on the compact cold mill as early as in the second half of 2014.
