On May 24, Düsseldorf-based German plantmaker SMS Siemag announced that it has received an order from Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal, the world‘s largest steelmaker, for a comprehensive renovation of gas cleaning equipment at its Ukranian steelmaking subsidiary ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.

Within the current modernization project, the filter systems at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will be converted to the innovative hydro-hybrid filter technology which will help to meet environmental standards and to reduce residual dust contents.

In addition to modernizing the off-gas cleaning system at the Kryviy Rih works, the off-gas cooling system complete with the water cooling circuits will also be renewed.

The project will be realized in several steps, covering one basic oxygen furnace (BOF) converter at a time. The first hydro-hybrid filter system is scheduled to be operational in 2012.
