German plantmaking group SMS Group's subsidiary SMS Meer has announced that it has received an order from Chinese steelmaker Qiqihar North Forging Steel, a part of the Dalian Dongbei Group, for the supply of a 60/70 MN open-die forging press.

Accordingly, the press will process high-grade materials, like tool steel, stainless steel and high-alloy materials, as well as semi-finished products for various industrial applications. The press, which operates with a forging force of up to 60 MN and an upsetting force of 70 MN, is planned to be commissioned in summer 2012.

Dalian Dongbei Special Steel Group has already taken delivery of two machines from SMS Meer - a high-speed open-die forging press with 80/100 MN press force and an SMX 800/16-MN hydraulic forging machine. Both machines are currently being assembled in Dalian. To date SMS Meer has sold a total of over 450 forging presses worldwide, ranking as one of the market leaders in this sector.
