In the first half of the current year, Shanxi Province’s coal imports and exports respectively decreased by 73.7 percent and 44.6 percent year on year, as announced by the customs authorities in Shanxi Province.
In June alone, Shanxi Province’s coal exports amounted to 73,185.4 mt, up 71.1 times year on year and rising by 198 times month on month, while there were no imports in June. In the given month, the average price of coal exported from Shanxi was RMB 657.4/mt ($106.0/mt), down 40.5 percent year on year and declining by 47.9 percent month on month.

The customs authorities in Shanxi stated that coal exports remained at low levels in the January-June period amid slack demand in the international coal market.

Shanxi Province’s coal exports mainly come from state-owned coal producers, with South Korea and Japan being the main export destinations, while the main source of coal imports is Indonesia.
