According to the authorities in the northern Chinese province of Shanxi, in January this year the province produced 58.17 million mt of coal, up 5.77 million mt or 11.02 percent year on year, while its coal sales to destinations outside the province totaled 43.57 million mt, down 2.84 million mt or 6.12 percent year on year.
Provincial government officials in Shanxi stated that, as temperatures increase, demand for electricity will shrink while hydroelectric power output will recover. On the other hand, thermoelectric power output will decline, resulting in less consumption of coal.
