According to new mining safety regulations in China's Shandong Province, the provincial government will restrict approval for new mining projects, with just major mining projects to get the go-ahead after very strict approval procedures, as announced by the provincial authorities.

The new regulations have been introduced following the fire which occurred at Fangbei Coal Mine in the city of Zaozhuang, Shandong Province on July 6 this year and following the severe flooding at Changyi Zhengdong Mining Co. in the city of Weifang on July 10.

According to the regulations, coal mining projects with a planned annual production capacity of 450,000 mt and above and iron ore mining projects with a targeted annual output capacity of at least 300,000 mt will be able to apply to undergo the approval procedures of the province.
