Shagang Steel’s finished steel output up 26 percent in Jan-May

In the ranking of global steel producers by New Jersey, US-based steel information service World Steel Dynamics (WSD), Chinese steel producer Jiangsu Province-based Shagang Group comes in 25th place for the first half of 2010. According to WSD, the rankings reward pro-active management, size, and integration from raw materials to downstream businesses. The ranking system is subjective and duplicative.

Meanwhile, in the first five months of the current year, Shagang Group produced 10,075,400 mt of pig iron, 12,048,500 mt of crude steel and 11,346,500 mt of finished steel, indicating increases of 15.77 percent, 16.32 percent and 26.07 percent respectively as compared to the same period of last year. During the same period, the company achieved RMB 71.155 billion ($10.5 billion) in sales revenues and RMB 4.754 billion ($700 million) in net profit, up 54.24 percent and 450.63 percent respectively year on year.
