The Russian steel producer Severstal has announced the conclusion of a supply agreement with UK-based LYNXS Shredder Limited for delivery and installation of a new shredder with an annual production capacity of one million metric tons of scrap.

The new equipment will be supplied in several phases throughout 2008-2009, while startup of production operations at the new shredder is planned for the end of 2009.

The new shredder will be able to separate ferrous from non-ferrous scrap metal and also process the latter for further use in the steel alloying process.

The commissioning of the new machine will allow Severstal not only to reduce its expenditures on scrap consumption, but also secure its production process against instability in the scrap market.
