Severstal Dearborn, Michigan said Friday that the facility experienced an explosion in its cold air pipe connected to the blast furnace stoves. Severstal said the explosion may or may not be related to the previous night's power outage at the Rouge complex. No one was injured.

On Thursday, the company's Rouge complex, including the Dearborn steel mill, experienced a complete power outage from 6:10pm to 11:03 pm. The outage was caused by an accident at the power provider, DTE Energy. All facilities in the plant were stabilized and operations were secured safely. The power loss caused some amount of steel to spill, which resulted in a small fire that was quickly put out. While Severstal works to restore the pipe, the company will continue to operate its finishing plants and service customers from existing inventory.
